Cash in your Pocket: How to obtain the ideal Serving Job

There is no question: serving in a restaurant is one of the quickest ways to make some extra cash. However, there are questions regarding how to get a job in the restaurant industry.

JobsOnRobson, job hosting website for the service, retail, and hospitality industry, has created a “tips list” to help you obtain a server position. JobsOnRobson not only hosts restaurant job postings but also wants to help you to get one. Yup, that’s right: your search just got a lot easier.

Once you have conducted your job search on JobsOnRobson.com and found the position you would like to apply for there are some things you need to remember:

•    Firstly, DO NOT show up at a restaurant to apply during their breakfast, lunch, or dinner rush. Your resume is likely to get lost-in-transition and never even reach the hiring manager’s hand

•    Secondly, DO plan to visit a restaurant during slower times, in between rushes. This period of time will vary from venue to venue so it may be a good idea to call and ask what is best for them [they will appreciate this gesture]. Also, it will give you the opportunity to ask who the manager is on shift at that time so you know who to ask for when you get there.

•    Thirdly, DO check out the restaurant’s careers page on their website. In many cases you will be able to print out an application and hand it in with your resume, maximizing your time.

•    Fourthly, DO be aware you might have a first interview on the spot. Dress accordingly for the restaurant you are applying for and be prepared to answer a few questions about yourself if the manager is available. Also, your first interview may be scheduled when you drop off your resume so know your schedule beforehand.

•    Finally, DO dress accordingly for your interview and DO show off your personality. The restaurant industry is looking for confident, energetic, and friendly individuals to ensure an amazing experience for their guests.

Remember: practice makes perfect. With these tips, the job search engine, and “How To” section provided by JobsOnRobson.com, cash in your pocket is right around the corner. For more tips on how to obtain a serving job or other jobs in retail and hospitality become a JobsOnRobson Job Seeker Member.
